A Trip to Trader Joe's

Unfortunately, I don't live close to a Trader Joe's, so when I make a trip, I want to stock up.  I don't always know what to get or general prices of things and spent a lot of time searching for ideas online.  I found that there are not many resources out there.  I wanted to see labels and cost.  I decided to post some of the items I bought to help those of you out there like me.

My day began very early.  Some of my friends and I woke up at the crack of dawn to spend the entire day shopping at some of our favorite stores: IKEA, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Woodman's.  It was lots of fun.  Our excitement and giddiness about going to a grocery store might be shocking to some.  You have to remember, however, that Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are not your average grocery stores.  To people like us "country folk", as some might say (our town population is about 25,000) they are the gold mine of all grocery stores.  When we traverse 65 to 85 miles just to go to one of these stores, it's a big event.  I made sure the trip was worth it.  Check out the goodies....

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil $5.99  (What's it good for?  Cooking, eating plain, or slathering all over your body)

Organic Ketchup $1.99
I really like that there is no High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Almond Butter $4.99

Almond Meal $3.99

No Junk Bacon $4.99

Chicken Sausage $3.99 each.  I love chicken sausage!  It's good for a quick meal fried up in coconut oil and some colored sweet peppers.

Grass-fed Butter $2.99

Light Coconut Milk 0.99

Salsa Verde $1.99

Salsa $1.69

Newton's Folly $5.99 - Gluten Free Hard Cider -

Pink Himalayan Salt $1.99

Smoked Sea Salt $1.99

21 Seasoning Salute Blend $1.99
It's oh so good!  We used it on burgers the other day.

Baking Cocoa $2.29 - Not as good as Navitas Naturals Raw Cacao because it has less fiber and protein.

Smoked Oysters $2.49

Sunflower Seed Butter $4.99.  Though I wasn't excited to see the sugar added, it's not too disappointing with only 3 grams per serving.

Dr. Bronner's Soap 32 oz. $9.99  What a steal!  This was the only kind they had but so worth it.

 Dark Chocolate Almonds $3.99
These are so good, and it's very hard to eat the serving size.  They are great for an occasional treat.

Dried Unsulfered Apricots $6.99

17 grams of sugar

100% Pure Maple Syrup $16.99.  I plan to use this sparingly for a special treat or with paleo pancakes.  Lots of sugar here, but it's natural.

Eggplant Spread $2.29 - Sunflower oil - would be way better if this said coconut, avocado, or olive oil.

Green Mango Dried Fruit $2.49
I like that these are unsulfered, but the added sugar is not necessary.

Plantain Chips $1.69

Sunflower oil.  Not something you really want to consume regularly.

Don't let the "Organic Free Range Chicken Broth" fool you as it did me.  The packaging looked great and with a price of $1.99 each, I was sold.

It wasn't until I got home and began to put everything away that I noticed the added nasty oils on the ingredients list.  A lesson learned: No matter what read labels!
